Think we've all seen scenarios where owners leave but the team has been left in cap **** - anyone new coming in would have one **** of a job to resolve that.
Is there any scope for the game being able to determine contracts causing cap **** problems; when owner leaves, these contracts could automatically be made more cap friendly ensuring new owners don't get burdened with having to sort finances out as their very first step?

+1 I'd like to see this and am thinking would there be a way to exploit it? If there isn't I would love to see this done. I know we all want to see as much realism to the NFL but it isn't and as the OP says it takes all the enjoyment out of the game, god forbid a Noob should ever get their first team this way.

I'm open to suggestions about how to prevent this from being exploitable - which is my main concern (you sign all the great players to crazy contracts, get in cap ****, have a loaded roster with no cap room, let your registration expire, then come back and take over your team after the contracts/dead cap has been adjusted, now you have a loaded team with no cap issues to prevent you from keeping them)
The dead cap _does_ get adjusted if it's too large to allow you to sign the minimum number of players to minimum salaries.
Maybe a reset could be done by a request button? Which would obviously be at your discretion, not that you need the extra work ;)

Lots of room to exploit here..which is common. I for one won't' mind the challenge of taking a fubar'd team back to glory, that would be one of the hardest accomplishments here.

The good news is that the cap issues will be gone within 2 seasons. Of course, it's tough to build a team fill of minsal players, but it can be done.

Zona was like that when I took over, and you're right it has been fun and quite rewarding...I know I'm contradicting myself here :0

Here is my suggestion! When I first played this game I didn't check cap space before I picked a team....I suggest that if a team is in cap **** some sort of warning pops up when you select a team...Letting you know the team your picking is in cap ****!!

If the previous owner ID is the same as the new, then don't adjust contracts; they caused the cap ****, let them fix it.
My suggestion had a couple of rationales.
Firstly, if you're a brand new owner joining during say the first FA period, you've plenty on your plate already to do. Having to delve into the whole cap situation as well could well turn off new managers - any game needs to attract and retain managers.
Secondly, a new manager would get penalised for something somebody else did. I know where Gussie is coming from, but experienced managers can do that, inexperienced managers not so much. Saying that, I don't believe any manager should be left in the hole at the start of a team ownership.
As for a flag indicating team in cap **** - newbies would just ignore that team and go looking for a new team in another league. Can't find one? May well quit and not log back in again.

Agreed, it can be done... but could a brand new owner, new to the game do it and more importantly would they want to. Newbies should be encouraged to stay playing the game.
