Free Agent Losses

Forgive me if this is the wrong place for this, I don't post much. I like the FA market to help my
teams more than drafting. I seem to lose most of the real high profile players that would make a
big difference, always the next day! When I go to bed, I get put on life-support in hope of waking
in the morning, keeping me from bidding late! Is there a way to put a reserve to auto bid on the
stud players, so as not to lose them to late nite sniping?

There is no sniping.

You put your bid in and the player takes the highest guaranteed money offered or, puts off signing another sim and you have a chance to increase (or decrease) your bid. If the player does not sign, the leading team is listed on the pending contract page .. AND you can find where your offer ranked on the player card under "Details".

Hey trslick

It just sounds like you're not offering enough money. All offers are blind until the sim runs. You make an offer that no other owner can see. It doesn't matter whether you make that offer in the morning or one minute before the sim runs.

Okay, so what is Max Contract? Because that's the only way to 'tie', anything less than that can be beat.

I think Bids shouldn't be blind. Once a bid is in, it should be seen. I should have some kind of clue if my 3 Year, 30 Million offer is pure rubbish or pure gold. The only way to know that, is to know what others are offering.

Of course, if I could lock down players that wanted to stay earlier... wouldn't be an issue. I'm always trying to Extend Contracts so the guys I like never see FA.

Offers should be blind, nobody wants to have to be on the computer all night waiting for the sim to roll over to make sure they have the highest bid...

I'd rather have some one snipe me at the last second than to go year after year never knowing what an offer SHOULD be.

At this point, the ONLY choice is Max. Anything else, you set yourself up to have the player taken.

And as we've seen in previous Seasons/Leagues... Max didn't always save the team. They simply lost to another Max Offer.

The only way to do FA on MFN... is to never let your guy get to FA.

The blind offers are the best part of the FA strategy though. I have to ask myself "How much am I willing to pay this guy? Would paying him more be worth the potential salary cap issues down the road?" I know the salary cap is fairly easy to stay under in this game, but if you go around offering max contracts all the time, you will have trouble.
