2 questions, on defense what does CthAlld stand for??
Are there any hard and fast rule that you only can have 53 players under contract once the regular season starts?? What will happen if I have more than 53.

It translates as catches allowed!
If you have more than 53 I'm pretty sure things get serious and the sim starts to attack your best players to reduce the # down to 53. Not sure.
I've never tempted that fate or it simply cuts a back end player on the roster.
Either way, I wouldn't leave it to the sim engine. :)

It happened to me to be allowed a claim during the playoffs weeks. I wasn't paying attention, so the team reached 54 players.
It wound up the backup SS was cut. Skilled at 66, 1m salary + 1.5m bonus he was not the highest contract, nor the lowest. (Btw, he got back on the team the following day on waivers)

This is what happens if you are over the cap. If you are just over the max players, the AI will try to cut your least skilled player while making sure you have enough at each position.
