I have noticed that some teams have negative Cap during the seasons, so my question is how much negative or leeway are we allowed to be in debt during the season?

Each team is allowed 0% of being over the cap.
If a team is over the cap at any time during the regular season, the AI will automatically cut the highest paid player and will continue to cut the highest paid on that team until the team is under the cap.

Since he is seeing teams over the cap during the season, I’m guessing that’s right after the midweek spin? Then the owner has a chance to correct the problem before the game spin, or else the AI will do it.
Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Unless, Phaldun, you’re seeing teams over the cap during free agency weeks or the draft? During those times, teams can go over the cap as much as they want. But people have to be smart about it and know how to get back under the cap before the season starts. I forget if it’s the regular season or the preseason.

Cap is not enforced during midweek stages during the season, only game stages. One of the reasons for the midweek stage is so that you can do roster signings in two steps, and if you go over the cap signing on the midweek stage you have a chance to cut players and get back under it.
also, when multiple contracts are out, the team page cap does not reflect the potential cap impact of those contracts. The contract/negotiation does (upper right corner will reflect the cap available if all proposed contracts were to be accepted upon next spin. When the "spin" runs, the team page cap is updated to reflect all contracts in effect for said team after the spin.
edit: super important in playing the off season FA game.
