How essential is tackling to a lb? I took a guy in the second round who has low volatility high run D high pass rush and speed and good p much everything except 30 something tackling max. Would this destroy his potential?

I consider tackling vital to LBers and DBs, if he is being used to blitz a lot though you may not see as much of an impact of low tackling.

I would say absolutely essential, but the random number generator favors broken tackles.
Can't hurt a 62 default rating. At least his contract demands will be low and the only thing that will cause a player to lose potential would be the direction he trends at training camp His low volatility has me thinking you have a decent player there.
He lacks a bit of explosion and some cover techniques as normally your WLB will be in coverage, but I like him in rounds 3-5 as he fits my schemes playing in the middle, but I would like a lot of big guys playing in front of him on the line to open up pursuit lanes or force backs outside where he can go run him down. His pass rush moves are pretty good but mostly a chase down sack guy who will get sacks due to 100 speed.
I probably would pass on this guy that early but I like to gamble In drafts. I could show you ten other better linebackers drafted later probably in every draft but with worst tackle.
You have to keep in mind a player will get credited for a missed tackle even though he immediately missed it right before the real tallied tackle occured....is that really a missed tackle or some kinda of assisted tackle.
For my tackling evaluation s here I count misses by d line men way less important as i have two or three guys barreling down on them to help out just in case. DBs on the other hand I highly value tackling for as if they miss it's more likely a td.
Thanks everyone. Looks like it wasn't too hot of a pick lol but hopefully he can be a serviceable player in some situations.
By my ratings I had him as probably about mid 4th round talent. 2nd and 3rd round is actually where I start looking for those higher vol guys. I'd rather take a shot at getting a guy that has a chance at being an 85/90+ than a guy I know is going to be stuck around 70 or something.

Rip lol. Oh well I guess I'll have to get lucky in the later rounds. First draft not going too well haha. I think the main thing is setting player weights rn I'm using the one posted on the forum as like most important attributes. Is that a good guide to use at least to start? Cuz with that I had this lb at 77

I'm not in that league so I can't use my weights for the player. Judging by his attributes, I would move him to LDE or RDE. He'll be a monster at either DE position until the next code roll out.

Being a Monster and having a High Rating are not the same thing, btw. Plenty of good Sack DEs have a Rating in the Mid to High 60's if your DE Settings are for an All Around DE.
Also his low Tackle will hurt at DE, but will be masked there as well. He's going to miss a TON of Tackles vs. the Run... BUT he should be slowing guys down so your D can swarm to them. Of course, you need Quality Defenders for that to happen, or they will get there late and miss Tackles themselves.
But yeah, you got a High SPD guy with a Quality Pass Rush, but you worry about his TKL... put him at DE and let him rip.
