Hi, i got a question about the salary cap and resigning your players.
I got just under 23.5 mill in available salary cap. I want to resign one of my players, who wants a 6 year contract, with 15.5 mill in bonus, and 2.6-3.4 mill yearly.
But when i offer him that, in the renegotiate contract window, it says the remaining cap room will be -8.5 mill!
That can't be true? Is it a bug, or have i totally misunderstood how the salary cap works? Should'nt only his base salary and his yearly bonus amount count against the cap?

Assuming you're in the offseason, it is calculating what your cap will be at with re-signing players AND what it will cost for your draft picks. An easy way to clear that out is to release some dead fat (players that **** but cost a couple mil) or to trade away picks such as 3rd and 4th rounders ( I don't worry about 5th round + because those guys get no bonus money and can be released any time with no cap hit).

You must be doing something funny with the contract or something. Anyway just see what he wants for a bonus, set the bonus % to 75 and do just enough yearly salary to hit his bonus requirement. You'll easily come in under the cap.

I was just trying to resign a player of my own and noticed something similar. Default contract offer for the player had me at 3000 under my Cap. Manually changed the first year salary by a dollar and when it updated it had me at over by almost 23 million. I think there is a small bug with what it shows when you manually change the contract.
