I'm wondering if there is a way to reassign a position coach to a different position. In this particular situation I have a backfield coach who would be a better receiver coach. His contract expires this season. Is there a way to extend an offer to him at a new position or would it be better to let this contract run out and re-hire him at the new position?

If there is a way to reassign position coaches though that might come in handy.

Offer him a contract at the new position & offer another coach his position. He will be fired from original position & should accept offer at new position.
