The players' current rating is what is used during the game sim. So a player with an attribute of 25/50 will play as a 25 player until his current rating improves.

He will gain experience (which is helpful) but won't improve his attributes any faster.

That's good to know. I always thought playing time helped them progress faster.

So a rookie is going to have the same current/future rating at the end of the season regardless if he plays a lot or rides the pine all season (assuming the coaching staff doesn't change)?

His overall has a weight in the current rating that comes from his experience, but besides that his individual attributes will be the same in either case if he has the same coaching staff.
