I was alarmed when I was signing draft picks, and my dead cap number jumped. I thought that dead cap was just for players I don't have anymore, but apparently this is not the case. What goes into dead cap? Can I control it somehow?

Dead cap should only be added to if a player is either cut, traded, or retires. Signing draft picks should not increase dead cap.
