What types of rules are common to make? I only have fourth down right now, but I was thinking of making run and pass key rules. It seems like a good deal of work goes into each rule. What rules do you all use?

Also is it recommended to do run/pass keys based on the personnel grouping the other team puts out onto the field? Or would the matrix by down and yardage simply be the best way to key?

On offense, I have two fourth down rules and another rule to help prevent safeties.
On defense I have a rule for each offensive personnel grouping. When I am really active I take the time analyze my opponent's play usage for certain groupings. Then I either edit and activate the rule for that grouping or I deactivate it if it appears balanced and I let the matrix I setup dictate what we do on defense.
My setup normally works pretty well, but I also have pretty solid teams and am still a bit of a noob, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
Also, if you really want to get detailed, you could download the game logs and figure out what they use in certain personnel groupings in certain downs and distances in certain areas of the field and make a bunch of rules based on that. I plan on doing this some day but haven't had time to workout the spreadsheet formulas I would need.

if you ever decide to do that i would suggest to you ask Setherick about the spreadsheet and i think he will be able to help you .
btw i think it is setherick who does spreadsheet formula unless it is jsid who does that.

I'd rather try to do it myself first because I have quite a bit of experience doing spreadsheet formulas as well as just math and algorithms in generals.
When I do it, I'll probably share the template with y'all. ... at least with JDB so maybe he can put those breakdowns on the site.

So to be clear, are u incorporating keys based on personnel? I'm unsure as to do it by that or by the matrix with its down and distance

If it is clear that my opponent favors the run or pass in a certain personnel grouping, then I use that to set the keys, otherwise I use the matrix with its down and distance. I always set the matrix up even if I have a rule activated for every personnel grouping, just to be safe.
