Couldn't find this specific question about retiring players.

If they are in the lost year of their contract....at what point in the off season do they retire?

Can you wait to see if they are going to retire before you try to resign them? Or do you have to resign them and hope they don't retire? (because I did read somewhere that you do get stuck with part of the contract if they do retire)

Yup .. it's a game with retirements as you just don't know when they will retire and you will be responsible for the bonus money.
