There's been some discussion of punt blocks in Beta since I wrote this. Apparently, disregarding my success, I've been doing it wrong. The most likely position to get a punt block is the Right End. I'll be swapping some players around in a few leagues and see if the numbers improve.
It's not at all that you've been doing it wrong, TarquinTheDark. It just goes to show how speedy DB's placed in the rushing position are a huge mismatch for blocking OL. I continue to stand by my original assumption that the speed/weight differences of each player in these scenarios are the tantamount factor when considering punt blocks. (Excluding the luck of the sim rolls.)
In this instance I enjoyed the mis-information. Too bad it got corrected.
I am a grizzled perpetrator of the punt block, and this advice is not wrong, it is simply dated. I have long since moved on from the methods outlined here. I agree with this thread *morally,* because I think this information should not be a sort of huge secret, jealously guarded by people I don't trust. It's just that I think the strategy outlined herein is very, very bad, and it will get you killed. There is simply no substitute for paying attention to what people actually do.

Please - elaborate.

I'm not going to tell you how to beat me, and even if I did, I would change again the minute I said something. The only thing I will say is, if this ever happens to you, see how it was done. Look at the way your opponent lined up. Then look at what they do to protect themselves. That will do you much more good than a recipe that "some unscrupulous dirtbag" ;) might see and adjust to.

Well, that's how I came up with my recipe ... and it is changing. I hope we play against each other sometime soon, I'm sure it will be a learning experience.

Can we get this pinned or added to the helpful guides?

Wait *laughs* lets pin the 'well, I've got no chance to win so lets punt block' strategy' shortcut of all shortcuts.
This isn't a Setherick Helpful Guide. It's how can I go to step 100 of learning the game to cheap/hot shot wins. LOL
It's not really a cheap shot. It's just another way of playing. It's not invalid just because you don't appreciate it. I adopted it because I could never overcome the talent deficit. I could either keep looking up at your nostrils or I could find another way to overcome you. I guess I can expect no better from you than to blame JDB or a cheap shot. You just don't like it because it makes you lose, sometimes.
I don't think it should be a permanent fixture in the Community Help Forum because it sends a bad message.
Someone new trying to learn the game first being pointed to something way off the beaten path to a sneaky move which has nothing to do with offensive or defensive strategies or offensive and defensive plays is lunacy. It's way, way, way, way down the line towards learning this game and shouldn't be one of the first things someone sees because that then puts the person in a mindset of mashing at a shortcut than actually learning anything which can be found in Scout Defense, Scout Offense, Def Plays, Off Plays and the matrix for Offense or Defense.
