When you are re-signing your players for new contracts that start the next season, why does it take away from the current season's salary cap? It should take away from the next season's salary cap right? Now I am in the negative for this year after I have re-signed two elite players.......does that mean next cycle it will cut my highest paid players automatically?

The contract is active immediately, therefore you have to pay the bonus of the last contract plus salary and bonus of the new contract.
You can monitor in the individual renegotiation box whether you increase or save for the current season

Often you can come out saving money on your salary cap.
