I've always thought that's a spin move. The defenders sometimes seem to momentarily over-pursue in the direction of the spin.

Dude gets hit behind the line, fumbles into a crowd...magically teleports out of the crowd at full speed and suddenly has the ball, proceeds to break 4 or 5 tackles for the next 80 yards for a TD.

This happens quite often on fumble plays.
