I have to Give the QB coach the OC job first, then my OC will be cut and I'll have to resign him but I can lose him to another team while he become available

That answer doesn't answer the question, which asks if the players will hit the open market. This doesn't say whether or not the coaches will hit the open market before signing or not.

So, in order to demote a coach from OC to QB, he would have to hit the open market first. At least, that is how I understand the system to work.

You cannot demote a coach without giving him an opportunity to hit the open market. You can offer a position coach a lateral move on your team, but you cannot offer a coordinator a lateral move to the other coordinator position. You can of course offer any of your coaches a promotion at any time.

I must have found a glitch then as I've demoted a HC to other positions and other coaches to other positions too, maybe this is how it used to be.
