As far as I know head coaches impact their teams in three ways:

1. Accounts for 50% of development of all players on the team
2. Determines plays in playbook
3. Determines player weights

The first item is visible via the coaches ratings.

But what about the other two? Is there any indication of what you're getting beyond the two or three word description of their offensive and defensive styles?

Nope.

I wouldn't worry about the weights. You can change those to whatever you want them to be.
