Kick/Punt Returns Update
by Beercloud @ 3/07/2016 4:50 am
Both kick and punt returns seem to be quite high. Kick return averages are around 5-10 yds too high as compared to the NFL and punt returns are approx 15-20 yds too high. Which might be part of the reason for some of the out of whack scores we see.

I think MFN 1 was testing out a new update for this. How is it going with it so far?

I don't agree about kickoff returns. Those seem on par with the NFL. It's Punt Returns that have become insane.

Its some peoples lack of attention to STs that is more to blame. There are those in here that pay a lot of time on STs and if you can...it does help a lot.

I just lost a game by 3 in which I gave up 3 PR TDs. I'm getting very frustrated with the returns. I'm not sure what to do anymore. Either the guys out cover the kick and run past the returner or they're too slow to get there. Others seem to handle it fine. I don't know what to think any more.

The ones I see (fortunately by my returner) always look the same.

Take the catch, run into the gap left or right between the gunner and the advancing blockers from down field, race to the sideline with the punter, then tackled by the punter or pushed OB, or it's a TD if he beats him or slips the tackle. I'm sure it's a similar story for others.

Last game my PR has 12/336 and 2 scores, average of 28YPR. After 11 games, he has 57/1,526 at an average of 27YPR. That would break the NFL record for average per return by about 5.5 yards and the yardage total is nearly double the NFL single season record. My PR isn't even that good I wouldn't say, he just got the job because he's fast haha!

Punt returns have been a nightmare whenever I have faced a stud PR, which happened twice this season, against the same team. It's ridiculous.

Game 1: 8 for 214 for 26.8 avg, long 80, 2 TDs

Game 2: 9 for 367 for 40.8 avg, long 71, 5 TDs

This guy has 10 PR TDs in 9 games this season, 7 of which were in the two against me. Any sane coach would have punted the ball out of bounds every time. Just frustrating when he alone is responsible for 49 of the 72 points they scored against me in those two games.

Also, two seasons ago he had 15 PR TDs in one season.

All you really need for a PR is speed and acceleration. If your return man makes that same cut every time on PR returns he is pretty much guaranteed that big gain. Its the pathing on the coverage that needs fixing as everyone bunches up in the middle. The coverage stays in the middle of the field besides the gunners so the return man just needs to make that gunner miss and then break to the outside.

I dont care how you set up ST.
