Currently you are unable to frontload contracts or even make them follow a bell curve shape. The only thing you can do is back load which makes contracts weird to deal with.

You can manually adjust them but it doesn't allow you to start with lots upfront and stagger it off later. So for example if I had 50mil free cap space this year but next year I had contracts popping that I would need to resign, I would want to sign my free agents to high amounts this year and then lower amounts as the contract goes on. The current system makes it so you HAVE to increase them by 5% a year which quite frankly is not at all realistic. So technically they are slightly frontloaded but not enough to matter and when you manually enter values you can increase by whatever% but you can't lower each year by whatever%.

The downside to this would be one owner backloading everything and spending obscene amounts of money and then leaving a massive cap mess for another owner to clean up.

Same could be said about trading and drafting and anything about this game really. If a person wants to sink a team then they will sink regardless if they can back load caps or not. They can trade away good players and high picks for **** if they so please. They can cut stars. None of them do this because it's a mostly text based football sim and that caters to a more mature audience of which trolls are not rampant. The benefits of this are much greater than the cons and I do not see any reason to not implement it. It adds realism and depth to the sim which adds immersion and makes you more connected to your teams.

They can already do this, front loading is the suggestion, means most of cap hit is in the first couple years of a contract.

Currently the bonus is the same throughout the contract. Only part you can back load is the base salary which is not guaranteed and can be reworked.

there is nothing in the whole thread that mentions changing how bonuses work, it's talking about being able to front load the base salary, which if the coding is done correctly would also affect the FA period since irl a player is much more likely to take a front loaded contract since he will get his money sooner and is unlikely to be cut after a team has already paid the majority of his contract in the first couple of years

Front loading and back loading a contract heavily involves the bonus if we are comparing this to NFL contracts. In the NFL the majority of the guaranteed money is all bunched into the first couple seasons of the contract. This allows the team to cut players after a couple seasons while taking on very little dead cap.
