Is it possible to promote or assign new positions to your coaches at any time or is that only done through contract offers to them?

For example, say I wanted to move my DL coach to Def Coordinator, does that have to be done in the off season? (and could I assigned the old coordinator to the DL postion coach position or do they have to get fired and then rehired?

Are the only options for new hires from the currently unemployeed pool?

you can promote throughout the season. if you want to hire a coach outside your organization you can only hire free agent coaches. Poaching other team's coaches is only during the first free agency period i think.

I must be missing something, i want to promote someone to a new DC but can't see any option on how to do so. Any suggestions?

the way you do it is click on the coach and hit contract and then change the job you want to promote them to and offer a contract. it will automatically fire the other coach after the sim. There is one stipulation that makes it so you can't promote. If you've already offered that coach that you want to promote a contract in that season you can't offer him a new job. So you can't give a db's coach a contract in preseason and then promote him to head coach in week 3. one contract a season i'm pretty sure. Maybe that's what's happening with the guy you want to promote

One thing to remember: A coach can only sign one contract per year. So if you sign a FA coach at the beginning of a season, you can't promote him during the course of the season. You have to wait until the beginning of the next season.

Gotcha, I just took over right before the draft so guess i'll ride it out until I can adjust.
