Power Rankings

This feature is interesting, but it seems to have crazy logic. Here is an example from this season. Indianapolis is about to play Atlanta. They are both 5-1 on the season. Atlanta has the number 3 spot in the power rankings and Indianapolis is ranked 10. Indianapolis wins big on the road 30-3.
You would guess Indianapolis would move up and Atlanta would drop, right. Atlanta moves from 3 to 2, and Indianapolis drops from 10 to 13. How does this make sense in any way???? |

The algorithm is quite complex, most likely something in other games butterfly-effected around to move it this way.

The Power Rankings are awful.
Very rarely do they ever make any sense. I know JDB has said they are based on an algorithm that is used by some people in real life. Probably the same "formula" that predicted Hillary would win in an electoral landslide. |

I really hope that this is true, and that jdavid really has contracted multiple firms to make automatic cold-calls asking for people's opinion on the entire power rankings of all 32 teams in each one of our fictitious leagues, and that then Nate Silver and other analysts are crunching the demographics data from those calls to spit out our daily updated rankings. |

Maybe the algorithm should be simplified, as it is, it is laughable.
Here is the scenario now. With ranking loses and the rank of the team they lost to with B being below 15. Baltimore is 1 and undefeated. TN is 2 with 3 loses to 1, 11, 6. NY is 3 with 3 loses to 7, 8, B. Atl is 4 with 4 loses to 8, 11, 15, B. SF is 5 with 2 loses to 4,3. Cinn. Is 6 with 3 loses to 1, 1, 11. AZ is 7 with 2 loses to 5, B. Wash is 8 with 2 loses and a tie to 9, 5, and tie to B. KC is 9 with 3 loses to B, 3, 1. Clev. Is 10 with 6 loses to 15, B, 1, 2, 6, 1. Indy is 11 with 2 loses to 1, 2. NJ is 12 with 3 loses to 1,2,7. Carolina is 13 with 6 loses to B, 4, 2, 15, 4, B. Chi is 14 with 5 loses to 10, 8, B, B, 5. Max is 15 with 5 loses to 11, 6, 2, 2, 4. So, here is how I would rank them approximately: 1.) Balt. 12-0,7 wins in the top 15. 2.) TN 9-3, 6 wins in the top 15. 3.) Indy 10-2, 4 wins in the top 15. 4.) SF 10-2, 3 wins in the top 15. 5.) AZ 10-2, 2 wins in the top 15. 6.) Cin 9-3, with 3 wins in the top 15. 7.) Wash 9-2-1, with 3 wins in the top 15. 8.) NY 9-3, with 2 wins in the top 15. 9.) Atl. 8-4, with 3 wins in the top15. 10.) KC 9-3, with 1 win in the top 15. 11.) Jax 7-5, with 2 wins in the top 15. 12.) Clev. 6-6, with 1 win in the top 15. 13.) NJ 9-3, with 0 wins in the top 15. 14.) Chicago 7-5, with 1 win in the top 15. 15.) Carolina 6-6, with 0 wins in the top 15. I think that my team should be no lower than 3 with loses only to 1 and 2, and with wins against 2, 4, 6, and 15.

I made it to the AFC championship game and was ranked 15th. I didn't put too much stock in the rankings.

I don't either, but I am just trying to make the point that they aren't very good.

Actually here is what the admin said about power rankings jdavidbakr wrote: Yeah, power rankings are just for fun and for conversation starters, I don't like their accuracy to be anything more than just a fun thing to follow. It's doesn't have any more weight than any NFL power raking list would. From this thread = https://mfn2.myfootballnow.com/community/thread/1/2143?page=1#13883

Yes, I get that. I am just saying that it is sort of like the college football poll. It should be based on won loss record, strength of schedule, quality wins, etc. I realize that this isn't really important, I just think it could be more accurate.

in league 75 i do a power rankings by conference each week, maybe you should try something similar to give it a more realistic feel.
