Re-signing before season end
by Mcarovil @ 11/12/2016 6:05 pm
I'm 500k under the cap with plenty of 1 yr contracts to re-negotiate. We are at the league championship stage. Question is, if I try to re-sign now, will it put me over the cap and then the SIM cuts my highest salary or will it not affect the cap til the new season?

If that is the case, then I have to re-negotiate right before the end of season SIM runs and hope the players accept the contract or they will be FAs right? Thanks for any info.

The only thing at this point you can do is try to resign the players you want.

Obviously, you don't want to go over the cap (or yes, the AI will start cutting for you); but you may find in offering the contracts you may actually save money this year which could allow for additional contracts.

Its tough to do this late in the season (in the future I'd recommend start resigning when the playoffs start) .. Hope this helps!

Watch the retirement % I got killed by that last season. resigned by RB during playoffs and he then retired. Your still on the hook for the money.

Why does resigning players affect the current year salary cap? I'm not changing the current years salary structure, just adding an extension to it.

I believe the new signing bonus will affect the current year. The new contract won't affect the previous bonus, it just adds to it. If that helps.

because you usually resign players for more money.that effects your current season's cap

It's because you aren't signing them to an extension really. You're basically reworking their entire deal, and anytime you resign someone you have to give them a bonus, and the first year of the bonus is applied to this year.

If you did this at the beginning of the year it could lower that player's cap hit if the new bonus money was less than the decrease in base salary.

By the beginning of the year, when exactly would that be? during Training camp? during preseason?
