I suggest keeping the number of posts per topic to maybe 3 for each person. After that, things tend to devolve into stupid arguments which have nothing to do with the original suggestion. If you can't make your point right away, you probably don't have a point. I'm guilty of joining silly flame wars too, but apparently it's not just me. The rest of the forum should not be subjected to such arguments.

I think an Unfollow Thread button would be better. If clicked the thread will no longer show up as unread or send notifications.

I think the opportunity to give a counterpoint should be made available .. with that being said, I like the idea of an unfollow option or, jdb locks the thread when it makes his "to do list".

I like the unfollow or "mute" option.

Another great option is to not get into stupid arguments. If someone tries to start one with you just ignore it.

Many people seem to be unaware that you can actually disagree with someone and express your opinion without resorting to insults.

Isn't that what the subscribe button does at the top of the thread. You can then click unsubscribe at any point.

No. Subscribe means you'll get an e-mail when there is a new post.

There is currently no option to NOT turn the icon green when there is a new post (and the new forum message notification).
