I didn't think I was going to say this, but...

The idea of a rookie camp prior to training camp is starting to grow on me. I think it would be nice to have two camps worth of development to evaluate before deciding to keep one of these players or not. It might also get some of these rookies seeing playing time earlier.

I guess this idea has kind of grown on me.

When in the schedule makes the most sense? Should we have the two camps back-to-back or should the mini-camp run right after the draft and before late FA?

I wouldnt mind it right after the draft and also wouldnt mind if FA was dropped to 4 days before the draft. This way your not really adding more days to the Off season

Eh, coming round to WarEagles view. If it was kept purely to rookies, hence a one off benefit and any improvement wasn't a major one just something that may give a semblance of an indication with an error margin... then sure.

No to increasing the off season though.

I would say run the rookie mini-camp after the Draft, and before Late FA... But shorten Late FA by one "day":

1) This jives with the NFL schedule, which gives team the option of 2 weekends just after the Draft to hold rookie mini-camps.

2) If we get a very general idea if our rookie draftees are "boom or bust", we can better target in late Free Agency.

3) No lengthening of the pre-preseason, and makes late Free Agency even more 'fiesty' and competitive.

i dont like the idea, I see it as a cheap way of trying to get rookies developing. Whether to keep the veteran or blood teh rookie is a tough decision but one which makes the game dynamic. Want the rookie to grow? give him game time. Dont want to risk on a rookie? pay more for a player in FA.

Why not pay the man for his hard work on the game without being a free loader.
