what should I expect

New to the game, in my first pre season. Just had the mid week before the 1st pre season game.

The 40 plays selected were low in familiarity and did not seem to change after the mid week sim. Should they have changed or does it change after the game????

You have to change them yourself or have have the coaches auto pick for you in order for them to change. Don't worry about familiarity yet. Since you're a new owner and yet to implement your changes to the offense, your team will probably be pretty unfamiliar with the plays you run, but that will correct itself with time.

The midweek sims don't change any familiarity, those are just to give you a chance to do roster moves without hoping everything works out for the game. The business logic happens during the training camp and game sims.

It will take time for plays to grow in familiarity, the longer they are active in your playbook the higher they will be. They also have increase for the players on the field when the plays are executed. It won't be long until you have your staple set of plays with very high familiarity.
