Um, if you make a rule to call specific plays on third downs and, let's say, you decide to include 4th downs on a whim for those special situations where one might go for it in a close game, do not assume that your lovely rule won't override your coach's decision to punt in an appropriate situation. Also, as an aside, it's a good idea to not wait two or three weeks before checking to see what your rules are actually doing... :)
Recently I was down by 2 points with about 5 mins left, I got to the opponent's 1 yd line on 4th down... Instead of kicking the field goal, I went for it... didn't get it... lost by 2 points.
I have a rule to go for it if it's 4th and Goal from the 2 yd line and inside. I've scored ALOT of td's doing this, but it really screwed me this time... It's tough to figure out every situation you want to use a rule...
