I've asked this question before about how to sign players to extensions. The advice sounded good but I'm still unable to sign players.
Re: Help! I need help with signing players before they go to free agency! By parsh 5/02/2019 11:55 pm UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES USE THE RENEGOTIATION WIZARD Step 1: Set your first-year base plus bonus slider all the way to the left Step 2: Set your bonus slider all the way to the left Step 3: hit submit offer a pop-up window will appear saying what they will not accept less than for a bonus; hit okay Step 4: select how many years you want to sign the player Step 5: begin to slide the first-year base plus bonus slider to the right until you are just over the signing bonus amount Step 6: manually input in the total bonus what the player is requesting you should now be signing the player to a minimum/team friendly contract Liked by punisher If anyone can give me more advice I would appreciate it. I've tried the advice above but to no avail. I'm tired of losing good players to free agency. Please help. Thanks! |

How I do it:
Step 1: Make sure the length of contract is NOT set to the number of years I want. Step 2: Set the first-year base + bonus slider all the way to the left. Step 3: Set the bonus slider all the way to the left. Step 4: Hit submit offer. A pop-up window will appear stating the minimum acceptable bonus. Step 5: Multiply the length of contract I want by 3 (so for a 6-year contract, my number is 18, for 5 years it would be 15). Step 6: Open my calculator app. Divide the minimum acceptable bonus by the number from step 5. Step 7: Back in the browser - Hit OK, and then enter the result from the calculator (very important -> round UP) into the first year salary. Step 8: NOW adjust the length of contract to the number of years I actually want. (This makes the salaries for subsequent years auto-populate at 5% increases). Step 9: Enter the minimum acceptable bonus. (If I don't remember, I go back to my calculator and multiply by that same number from step 5) The bonus slider now reads 75%. Step 10: Hit submit offer again. Step 11: Open a beer for offering a player the absolute minimum contract they will accept.

I like jsid's contract extension spreadsheet. Download a copy, as some have had trouble running it off of Google Docs:

I however, obtain the bonus wanted, toss in say 1m salary in the 1st yr, then add in the bonus, bonus slider now shows %. Then adjust yr 1 salary down to a 75% bonus slider ratio. x1.05 per yr. Same thing, different approach. jsids is forever not working, and I found it actually didn't crossover very well between league caps when it did. ;) Whiskey, not beer. :P

Also, it should be noted. If one screws up and then needs to adjust, start completely over. Close that contract window and open a brand new one or things will get very goofy, at least in my experience.

UPDATE: Having just reviewed your transaction log, your players aren't accepting your offers (thank goodness) because it would cause you to exceed your cap. In addition, you are offering them WAY TOO much salary. If you're willing to extend a player it should usually be for the full 6 years unless you're certain he'll be retiring sooner (in which case maybe you shouldn't extend him).
