Just wondering if the college indicated on a rookies player card matters at all? For example, say a GM wants to preserve a (familiarity amongst QB to WR, LB to LB, etc..)

No, it's just cosmetic eye candy.
If player to player familiarity was ever implemented I could see a similar but slight benefit for those college players that might hAve played together .
