I have lost more than a few coaches with contracts expiring. I have only signed free agent coaches. when and how long (what weeks) are coaches with available to sign off other teams.

As far as I know coaches may only be poached by other teams between end of season and training camp (or start of regular season?)
You may only poach a coach giving him a higher rank: Position coach -> coordinator, coordinator -> head coach.
That means, you only lose a head coach when he retires or you forgot to renegogiate a new contract. All other coaches may be hired by other teams as mentioned above.

I think i read somewhere that you can resign a coach to a 6 year contract each year just by offering a dollar more than the present contract. As for the range im not sure what you mean?

When you can sign another coach from another team. I just found the video. It is thd early free agency range in thd schedule only.

The poaching range is between EOS and the draft - any early free agency sim. Signing a coach to a contract keeps them from getting poached for the rest of that season.

Others can get poached anyway, so why bother changing the length of contract? Re-signing all coaches every FA1 locks them in for the rest of the poaching window/range that season. That way you only risk losing them to retirement at EOS or poaching at FA1.

Coaches don't need an additional raise every season, beyond the automatic 5% increase (not even $1). The only effect of $1 would be to keep them from getting poached for only $1 more than you are paying them. It's not a bad idea, worth the effort if you think someone might try that.
