I am really not sure what happened. All I know is that right after the End of Season cycle, you are supposed to have access to the next year's salary cap so you can start trying to get a few good free agents. Well, I had plenty left at the end of the season spin so I re-signed a few players I wanted to keep. The next day I was ready to bid for a few high skilled players in FA......only to find out that I am already negative in my salary cap. Anyone help me understand what happened?
If you are talking about your team in the Elite Football League, you have $20 million of cap space but you need $24 million for your draft picks. The guys you signed at the end of the previous season cost you roughly $18 million to $20 million in cap space.
So, you may have thought you had $38 million to spend. But, when you figure in the draft picks, you only had $14 million to spend. And you spent $18 million.
Just like LoanBlood said.
What you can do for some immediate relief is to trade picks in this draft for future draft picks. That will at least give you some wiggle room this season.
I waited until the "End of the Season" cycle to re-sign a few players. I had enough cap to do it, but I believe it rolled over into the FA Round 1.............so I didnt get to use the cap I had to resign a few players........it used this years cap to do it. Is that right?
Basically do not wait until the "End of Season" cycle to re-sign players right?

If they accepted at the end of season spin, it does not roll over and use this season's cap.
I'm with everyone else on this. You couldn't consider this year's draft pics, because you signed your players last season. Part of your total salary cap for this year included your future draft picks. It's something you have to mentally note yourself.

I always extend contracts during the playoffs (after the regular season). I just leave enough in the bank to sign my draft picks. It's why I don't trade often.

You have 71 million in dead cap....thats a big number.
3 players retired sticking you with bonuses left to be paid in full as dead cap.
The biggest problem is WR Robert Farmer...signed to a 5 year/72.2 million dollar contract in 2032 and cut in 2033. Figuring 50% bonus ...thats 7 to 8 million a year in bonuses and you ate 3 years by cutting him in the 2nd year of a 5 year contract....thats between 21-24 million in dead cap. The dead cap could be as high as 33 million if the contract used 75% bonus...not sure.
The good news is you only have 4 million in dead cap next season so trade this years picks for next years. Sign some vets to 1 year minimum contracts then next season you will have 125 million under the cap to play with minus the 40 million for all those draft picks you traded for
Thanks for all of the reply and advice. Yes.... I have made some big signing mistakes like WR Farmer and others. Hopefully I will get it together in the off season by next season ;O

A few people offered trades, but I didnt see them until it was too late. I could also void the draft picks and save cap that way right?

Yes...if you cut before camp you're not on the line for any bonus payments even as I recall.
