The first year of MFN27 is beginning to wind down and I am curious as to why I cannot start locking players down long term. The bulk of my roster are on 2 year contracts and I would like to start extending contracts.

You can't renegociate contract on the first year of a contract... you will be able to propose long term deal after the end of the season step.
