As a German, non-native speaker, I find it funny how two native speakers discuss the correctness of an irregular verb. But an inveterate Englishman would even describe an American as a non-native speaker.
Incidentally, the whole discussion is now so annoying to me that I'm considering not commenting anywhere anymore... not even GG anymore.

It is just a game, but the old timers have invested a lot of time and years into it, so I get the heated debates.
