I never see (hot read) or anything but is the QB making a call based on the defense?
Currently, there are hot reads, rare as they may be they work as such. Scout the play, and have your QB/WR intelligent/familair enough with the offensive and defensive play. I think the QB will target the deepest most inner pattern in the direction of the blitzer. Eligible but assigned pass blockers can become targets here.
So, the QB is kinda making reads based on the defensive call, but even when they do happen they dont always look the best. Could be one reason we dont see them often. As it was implemented to counter blitzing versions ago but is in way less occurance 4.4 and on. You will see them cited in the logs when they happen.
To my knowledge play selection goes type -> formation from your matrix unless a rule/slider forces something else
Theres a bunch on just play selection alone but what i do know is somettimes one play can be called 5 times more than another with the same settings.
Also does the game conform to situation i.e. become more conservative when ahead and run more?
This would be slow down. A setting of 6 or 8 can be aggressive. As the game goes on and when scores are closer you will see play calls change even with the lowest settings.
GP adjuster is a wacky tool that can be used real creatively. Due to the lack of any rule use, I set mine on 21 alot and play calls swing drasictly. Seth has posted good stuff on it.
That is the effect of the sliders Ray talked about
