Offensive Tackles
by ssid_27 @ 2/28/2024 7:47 pm
I know in football Offensive Tackles are usually big (tall) , athletic, quick on their toes, and most likely the best players on the line. I need to ask anyone who could answer, What makes a solid OT in MFN.? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mostly strength and pass blocking although acceleration and speed factor in some too.

Does run blocking matter at all?

Run blocking matters unless you just want a 3rd down tackle. Discipline matters for penalties and intelligence factors in somewhere.

Everybody has their preferences but for me, I pick my OL based on a combination of speed, acceleration and strength, along with run/pass blocking. Idc about speed as much with tackles as I do with guards since they don't pull block but I don't want a statue either.

Those OL that have better run blocking than pass blocking become guards for me and vice versa for tackles. Centers are under the same criteria but I add short/long snapping for them.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. It's frustrating giving up as many sacks as I do in Moguls. Do you think height/ weight are any thing to even consider? I usually get Tackles that are at least 6'3 or taller if I am able.

You're welcome, always happy to answer legit questions.

I don't worry about height and eventually all tackles end up weighing the same. MFN player's physical weight is determined by position and over time, that weight gravitates toward the mean.

That being said, if you try to take a 225 lb FB and make him an OL, he likely won't gain all the weight, you'd be better off turning a TE into OL.

Is height even a factor in the game?

Weight does affect another stat, but that's a different story and imo it's not that relevant to a tackle anyway.

More I look at my data, more I flip flop on what's needed, tbh.

Weight also affects strength. But height only affects jump *****, doesn't affect OL

Any proof of that? Because it’s extremely minimal impact if any. Strength probably matters rolling against another players strength, but I don’t think weight and height have anything to do with it. Otherwise 5’10” and 198 lbs of wr playing te would have more trouble catching passes in traffic and blocking…

Strength doesn't really affect catch in traffic as far as I know and WR do have difficulty blocking as strong heavier players with decent block shedding skills. The game creator has said that weight affects strength and block shedding. And that height only has an effect on high passes and that it's only a small part of the equation.
