in my time participating in MFN, it is clear to see that the automated decisions from unowned teams are horrendous
unless a league is at full capacity - which according to current participation is not happening - the unowned teams need to be programmed to make wiser decisions with draft picks, free agency signings and resigning of players already on the roster
each unowned team becomes a joke and it lies on shoulders of admin to correct. not exactly what i signed up for
in time teams work themselves into horrible position and become less attractive to any potential owners
since there are so many unowned teams.....if this was my game.....i would focus on re coding how unowned teams make their decisions
The other point to that is you could then have AI building a quality roster, so someone walks into a simple task,
Are you suggesting the AI /should/ sabotage teams? It will obviously never be as good as the best managers at roster construction and game planning, but what if it was!? I kinda get the point of unowned teams falling behind competent competitive leagues, but the fact that most leagues are half empty makes just showing up half the battle…
I'm saying both extremes are bad.
AI builds greatest roster ever for someone new taking over, as bas as gutting the roster.
I think Ai running a team should make the team at best average.

Just keep the AI from making horrible decisions. Such as:
1. No fat contracts for aging players. Anybody on the retirement clock should not get a contract. If an established veteran wants do that, he should have the right, but we should not saddle newbies with junk players.
2. Please, please have the AI sign a kicker and punter.
3. If you overvalue speed, and you certainly do, then have the AI care about it too. A new owner should not be subjected to a circle-jerk because he cannot get fast players.
By no means am I expecting to win right away, but I should not be punished for taking on a new team. I just did, and I am going to spend the next two seasons crawling out from under these bad contracts. Plus, my draft picks will be nerfed because I am going to have all this dead cap. What new owner would want to go through all that? It is hardly any wonder that nobody joins.
100 percent behind the first 2 points, number 3 about speed is a little harder to force, because the AI can only possibly care about the default ratings and weights. That is not to say that those values don’t need overhauled to better reflect what experienced players already adjust for.
By no means am I expecting to win right away, but I should not be punished for taking on a new team. Yet you took that team. You made a choice. The weight you carry is yours by choice.

It's a valid point though.
Game booms, lots of new players, people are going to get hit by it. If you've got to spend seasons recovering....

My point, which you deliberately misunderstood, was that only a paranoid nutcase like me would make the choices I made. Any reasonable person would stay away, which is exactly what many people are doing.
Private league commish can reset dead cap to help you out.
The time to offer that was when I joined. I already cut everybody and traded all my draft picks when I assumed I was on my own.

I think I just did it upon you joining without saying anything. I try not to advertise it because long time owners might get upset, claiming unfair advantage.
