having a mute button to avoid seeing incoherent ramblings would be nice. could easily scroll past and ignore but i would chose the option to not see it at all

Click on the User.
In the drop down options is a "Block User" selection.

Note that if you select that, it's not just inane ramblings that you miss - blocked user can't private message you, no league forum messages visible, user can't offer trades to you.

It's a global thing.

Did you wish for a lighter "ban", an Ignore where you just can't see posts but can have trades?

If you want to ignore an entire thread, then on the thread options, you can ignore it from there.
