That's why you had issues.

See what the bonus requirement is for that player, then give him that bonus amount with as little base salary as you can manage.

They won't always accept your first offer, but eventually you'll get them signed for less than what they were asking for.

I don't ever pay a player more than I have to, unless I am in a bidding war for a FA.

I assume this is for in season renegotiations? If so you are really only changing the remaining years of the actual contract I assume, and leaving the base, and bonus as is for the additional years? Or am I misunderstanding?

Thanks in advance!

If you send a new contract, the bonus for the new contract is added to the bonus remaining for the current contract. All base salary is over written with the base salary of the new contract.

Regarding in season or not: Yes and no. It doesn't have to be in-season if they are still under contract to you. It can be during early FA if you like, or during the playoffs after you've been eliminated, or any time in between. As long as they are under contract to your team, you don't have to bid against anyone else, so I recommend trying to re-sign them for as little as possible.

During early (sometimes late) FA, you will have to bid against others, so you will need to pay what the market demands.

During the season, if I need a FA I still offer a small contract and hope nobody else happens to be going after the same guy at the time.

Hope this helps.

Let's say you miss the in season window, is there a time before early FA, (not counting the season before, or the playoffs) where you have a chance to bid for your own fa's before it is open bidding? I mean when others can take your guys potentially?

Do you usually wait until the season before they are free agents to negotiate (in season) with them, unless there is a huge free agent class ahead?

There is no window between end of season and Early Free Agency. You have to make sure you get them locked up before the end of season sim.

When I try changing the first year base, it seems to change the base for all the years. Is this what should happen, or?

I assume you're using the slider, and yes. There is a requirement that the salary increase by 5% or more each season.

As you can see by the first image, he rejected my extension attempt. As you can see by the second image, the contract button isn't there for him.

Will I be getting another chance to resign him? If so when? Thanks in advance!
