I dont know how others feel about this suggestion or if there is even a way to put it into effect.

When going after a FA, if the team already has premier players at that position the likeliness of him signing with that team will decrease as he will be looking for a team where he might get more playing time. This also could stop loaded teams from taking every top notch FA as well

I like the idea. It more closely resembles real life.

However:

1. What if you plan on changing the position?

2. What would stop someone from changing the position of a player already on their team, then change it back once they sign this free agent?

3. What if the player is a CB (for example)? I don't think Revis would avoid signing with the Seahawks just because Sherman is there. It wouldn't impact his playing time.

Those are very good points, as far as the CB position I think it can be weighted for that and also WR as far as depth.

Not sure if there would be a fix for someone changing players positions to just get a FA and then change it back.

I like this idea as well. I do intend to also include logic that, if you have a really good player who is not getting (enough) playing time, he won't re-sign with you. That's all still in the conceptual stage at this point.

Another dovetail thought is to reduce the number of years you can sign a player, it might be too much right now.

I think that would work as well. Could also solve some teams tanking issues

I've implemented a cap on the number of trades between two teams in a given season to 3. While fundamentally I don't have a problem with having unlimited trades between two teams, that does leave a loophole that makes it possible to overcome the trade balance bar over multiple trades. I don't have any suspicion that this is happening, but have decided to implement this limit to head off the potential before it becomes an issue.

1. When planning on changing position, maybe have it specified in the signing transaction - ie "may switch from FS to SS".

2. Store the original position ( or history of position changes ). Have a penalty applied to performances that degrades over time but is increased by the number of position changes within a timeframe. So, performance penalty for changing from FS to SS would be X. Change back the next day it would be say 2 times Y. Would then take longer to degrade fully? I'd be tempted to caveat that though - during training / pre season camp period there's more than enough time to try things out to find the best position, so shouldn't necessarily be punished.

3. Depends upon position and depth. A RB may not want to go somewhere he's potentially a backup. A CB on the other hand, using your example Revis wouldn't mind Sherman as they could work opposite sides. If however there were 2 or 3 quality CBs there already...

Overall the trade guidelines are much better, but the modifier for age should be increased for 30yr+ players.
