draft picks shouldn't come with automatic contracts
if a real life team drafts a player they then have the exclusive rights to offer that player a contract. but if a team drafts a player in MFN and wishes to trade them they will get stuck with the dead cap from the automatic contract and bonus
owners should be able to trade players they just drafted without getting hit with cap penalties
From my understanding each player has an already determined salary depending on the draft slot. There used to be an option to void the contract during the draft phase, which is basically a cut without ever taking on the cap. Which is sort of what you are talking about, as that way you'd choose whether to keep them or not. But I only ever used that when the AI drafted a player for me because I wasn't able to set my board up before hand. I don't see it anymore so I am assuming it was removed.
But if you want to use the real life situation, no teams trade away players immediately after drafting them, much less before they even sign the contract. The only league that comes to mind that dose that is the NBA on draft night, where they trade the rights of the player for another player + picks. And on the NFL when a team does trade away a player on a rookie contract they do take the hit of the contract. So I don't see a real reason for that to be implemented. As I also don't see anyone trading away a player they just drafted.
Pretty sure if you click that player, opening that player's pop-up; choose the drop down arrow (upper right of player pop-up ((aka player card)), then the select cut option PRIOR TO TC, the contract is 100% null and void. That's how it worked for me, anyway.

"no teams" ?
i believe it has happened, and that is why i am suggesting auto contracts should not be default
in real life a player doesnt sign a contract the moment he is drafted. some players refuse to sign with the team that drafted them. but the team still owns the rights to the player and the player can not play for another team until a deal is made
in MFN, we can cut a player after being drafted, but then the player is put on waiver wire and there is zero return
what i am proposing is that afer a player is drafted there is an option to trade the player before the player signs which would result in a return sans penalty

yes, but then the player is gone. if a player of value who is used in a trade is drafted then the owner is on the hook for the bonus. but the player was never signed....it was automated
when a player is drafted and the team wants to keep the player then there should be a button that completes the automated pay scale as opposed to the void contract option. if the button isnt clicked then the contractless draftee should be able to be traded without cap hit

This is a sim game, not real life. Real life doesn't have RBs with sub 50 speed in the draft, being just 1 of many instances where MFN will never mimic real life.
