A team will use cap space to pick up good free agent talent. That player then goes on the trade block for draft picks. They have to eat the bonus but most teams don't even come close to the cap limit anyway.

I guess that this isn't illegal but I think it goes against the spirt of the roster building system IMHO.

No team should be able to trade a fee agent at least until after the season starts during which he was signed - if at all (that is, until the end of the season during which he was signed).

Off the main topic .. But here is what is frustrating .. I just drafted a LT in Cst 9 rated 26/57 .. As a LG he is 28/60. I have never touch player weights so I am assuming I am at the default ratings. Shouldnt this player have been rated as a LG?

Admittedly I've done this, but it never occurred to me that people would be upset about it. Additionally, I've never signed a player I didn't think would help out my team if I kept them. Sometimes the circumstances change and I just try to make the most of it.

I also feel that even if I was trying to sign a guy just to trade him, it's more gamesmanship than something underhanded. Especially without cap rollover, why not use up your cap space on trade bait?

He's rated based on whatever his assigned position is, and the weights you are using (custom or default). If you change the position you get a different rating (assuming the weights are different for the new position).

Completely agree. I sign players to help my team, but occasionally those players don't work out for me. The NFL doesn't force you to keep a player. You should be able to sign and trade as desired.

Even if someone is signing and trading, it does them as much harm as good because they are eating the bonus which is usually large for decent players. They are taking a chance on rookie draft picks that may not pan out as well.

When you release players, it affects other potential FA's attitudes towards considering your future offers. If you sign and release a very loyal player before his contract is up a hidden factor goes against you on signing other players. The more loyal a player is, the more he cares. A real greedy player could care less. And if you hang on to a player throughout his contract, the factor goes in your teams favor. If a player is with you throughout his career until his retirement it is a factor bonus.
