I'm personally stuck on his work from the early 90s. Pump up the Volume, The Future, Natural Born Killers soundtrack, etc. Nobody has ever matched his version of Hallelujah!

One of my favorite LC songs is "Closing Time." Yeah we're drinking and we're dancing But there's nothing really happening And the place is dead as heaven on a Saturday night And my very close companion Gets me fumbling gets me laughing She's a hundred but she's wearing Something tight And I lift my glass to the awful truth Which you can't reveal to the ears of youth Except to say it isn't worth a dime And the whole **** place goes crazy twice And it's once for the devil and once for Christ But the boss don't like these dizzy heights We're busted in the blinding lights Of closing time Here's a nice banjo-infused version: https://soundcloud.com/old-man-luedecke/closing-time |

How about this one, Light as the Breeze
Tonight, it's my favorite. IDK what I'd choose tomorrow. And you're weak and you're harmless And you're sleeping in your harness And the wind going wild In the trees, And it ain't exactly prison But you'll never be forgiven For whatever you've done With the keys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Wh-695UNpA |

Ok. New TOOL....
Thoughts? Might be still too early to have digested the album, it sure is for me. Pnuema is leaning towards my fav track (finally the Son of Schizm), 7empest a close second. Stupidly listening to it fragmented instead of track 1 to finish, so there is that to consider. Here is the album via youtube (YERTUB!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7DfQMPmJRI&list=PL_cf7UZNH0CbQ3KzppCp8Q0Npt3lT1vnW Note: the yertub album playlist is not track 1 - end. See the wiki for the tracklist for order. Please do not give this a one off listen/response. One does not simply listen to TOOL. It's like Floyd that way ;)

I like some TOOL songs but I'm not as IN to them as some people. Maybe it's just me but I sense a "holier than thou" vibe from them, like we should bow down in front of them because they finally decided to grace us peons with some new music after 10 years. Then they go out on tour for 6 weeks?
6 weeks? Weak. I could have my facts wrong about the tour, like I said, I'm not really into them. |

I'm missing that visceral rage reaction that I get from tracks like Jerk-Off, Schism, or Aenima. It's recognizably TOOL, it's technically extremely proficient, it's artistic, it sounds like they need a Viagra! Did they all quit drugs again? It's like asking for Beethoven and getting Bach. :( EDIT: May have been overly harsh / needed to vent. Had some tradesmen offer me their services on credit. Been hearing their same five Bon Jovi tracks all day / every day for two weeks now. Not a Bon Jovi fanboy. I can give Fear Inoculum a third listen tomorrow. RE-EDIT: James got fed. You can't fake the hunger/pain in the older stuff. It's the same sound without the empty belly.
